Masterson’s Tavern , positioned in the vibrant core of Moonee Ponds, promotes itself as a chic “hipster” locale , but my recent visit at this establishment resulted in an experience I’d rather forget . While the bar may look welcoming at first glance , what I discovered behind its walls was shocking and unacceptable on multiple levels .
The State of the Venue : Filthy and Neglected
From the moment I crossed the threshold, it was clear that hygiene was not a priority at this venue. The floors were sticky , and a nauseating aroma of old alcohol and uncleaned toilets suffused the entire venue . Smelling a mixture of human waste, putrefaction and sour vomit . The bar area , which should be the main attraction of any pub, was piled high with used mugs and litter that looked like it hadn’t been touched in ages . The toilet was in even more deplorable shape — spilling over , with a shattered handle and surfaces marked in what I can only assume was human excrement .
It wasn’t just a single bad experience either. From reading other reviews and speaking with locals , it seems that the level of hygiene (or lack thereof) at this bar is a long-standing issue . His presence at the bar often felt more like that of a sweating predator than a genial proprietor .

Instead of taking action to resolve the damage done by her husband’s actions, she appears to condone his behavior.
